La Jolla Living Room and Library Reveal

Happy New Year!  I thought it would be fun to start the year with one of my favorite spaces from 2013.  I previously shared the installation details and the dining room.... and today, the living room and library! AMD_G_LR

These spaces were designed to be sophisticated, yet comfortable, with a coastal nod.  The grey and blue trim combination acts as a neutral throughout the house, making it a more cohesive total space.   Of course, so much of that cohesion is dependent on the floor plan; it is critical to capture the right energy. I anchored the seating around the fireplace, but added a mirror image of  the wing chairs to create a seating area that you could sit in and relish the gorgeous ocean views.

The Library was designed to be both a place of solitude to enjoy a great book while sipping your morning coffee, and a place for conversation with a friend while enjoying a glass of wine with a friend.  What really makes it cozy is the varied use of textures, be it the oversized silver and cream herringbone on the english arm chairs, the pewter print on the wallpaper, or the rough edges of the coral.

I wish you all the best for 2014!
