Project Update: Rancho Santa Fe Construction

This week we are sharing a new project, and we are just a few weeks out from the big install. The Ranch is an interesting place architecturally, with historical Spanish Colonial and ranch-style homes mixed in with more modern and grand architectural styles.
This project is the classic ranch, with a sprawling single story that is very much at home in its equestrian environment. There is a utilitarian simplicity to it; though to say it were simple would be a dire injustice to the fine details. Overall, the house, and its relationship to the natural beauty around it, is a clean, handsome canvas on which to build subtle intrigue. I like to say that there's drama in the details, but serenity in the overall composition.
The clients and I share a love for American folk art; there is just a clean, warm feeling it evokes. So we drew elements from this inspiration and other similar American sources, not just with the art itself, but with the details: gorgeous pick-stitch fabric and woven stripes that bring to mind hand-made quilts, Shaker furniture, ship-lap, brass lanterns and hand forged iron hardware, and so on. The result is something graphic and contemporary, while still feeling simple and and timpless.
Even the fireplace moulding, though visually interesting, is comprised of simple shapes with strong, clean lines. In fact, we have bordered each and every wall with gorgeous mill-work. And in just about a week, the cabinets are going to be installed and I cannot wait to see the space come alive with furniture.
