Inspired By: Magnolia Plantation

What did you do over the Holidays?  My husband and I had the honor of touring the gorgeous grounds of Magnolia Plantation, a former rice plantation just outside of Charleston.  Time and time again, I find myself drawn to these types of gardens:   relaxed and natural looking, but upon closer inspection, they are actually meticulously planned and maintained.  What huge effort it is to look effortless! The day we visited  was unusually cold and dark, with only intermittent hints of sunshine, creating a moody and romantic feel.   I loved the winding pebble paths, statues with the most delightful patina, fuax bouis benches, and roaming peacocks.  And while this setting was a bit more Southern Gothic than I think I would want for my day to day, I love exposing my eyes to new and interesting ways people have lived and the ideas for my own life and work that they inspire.  Do I see a secret garden in my future?

And after hours of wandering throughout the grounds, we returned to the Zero George in Charleston for a fabulous night away.

I hope the new year brings you new hope for all of the things you love most in life!
