Paint: Peanut's Room
Paint color is a crucial decision. It sets the tone for the room. Once the wrong color is on the walls, there’s no way to escape or camouflage it. It should also work hand in hand with the fabrics. My last post showed how the fabrics for peanut’s room were inspired by her quilt fabrics. The relationship between paint and fabrics can make or break the room, and since paint is infinitely customizable, it makes more sense to tailor the paint to the fabric than vice versa.
I absolutely love this inspiration image. The soft peachy pink on the painted wall is the perfect backdrop for the rich reddish pink in the bouquet.
I chose to go very neutral with the walls (Benjamin Moore Mountain Peak White) and the trim (Benjamin Moore Carlisle Cream). This will give the room the light and airy feel I was looking for as well as transition through her childhood.
The ceiling will be a soft surprise when you walk in the room. I have introduced a peachy pink overhead by painting the ceiling Teacup Rose at 50% of the formula. Cutting the formula in half results in a softer pink that’s more in line with my design scheme while staying true to the original color’s tone.
Successful color work is often about creating connections. I made sure to echo the ceiling’s peachy pink in the fabrics, and then layered on the rich reddish pink to add a punch to her room.
When all is said and done, I want her room to have a cheerful, youthful presence with just enough sophistication to last through her toddler years.
We still have a ways to go, but it’s taking shape! In fact, the quilt my mom was making just arrived!
