The Week That Was: 10/19-10/23

What a week it was!  We had been looking forward to this week for months as it marked the installation of our design for Luxe Magazine's Maison de Luxe at Greystone Mansion.  Our space is comprised of four rooms: the 2nd floor grand hallway, sitting room, study, and a secondary hallway. I found that doing a show house is very different than a typical residential installation.  First off, other designers install their spaces simultaneously, which means that deadlines are tight and installation windows are even more narrow than normal.  It does add a palpable energy to the process,  making it both wildly exciting and, admittedly, nerve-racking.  But more to the point, a show house is meant to be a public representation of my design, and as such, I felt a great deal of pressure to make things perfect.  There is no such thing as perfect, of course, and the pressure is mostly self-imposed, but that in no way makes it less real.  I want to do my best, both with my design and with my life, and this week was a challenge with sleepless nights and 5 a.m. commutes to Los Angeles.  Yes, I want to do my best for clients, I want their projects to be to perfect for them, and I put a lot of pressure on myself to do so, but there is something different about a show house.  Perhaps its the lack of  a client to design for, or simply the very public nature of the project... whatever it is, this process has been like nothing I have experienced. I could not be happier with the outcome and would do again at the drop of the hat.  The joy of creating a unique space in an historic house was amazing, and the fact that I can share it with the world is beyond thrilling.

I want to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors, for without them this would never have been possible!  Quadrille, Cowtan & Tout, Rogers and Goffifon, Lori Cozen-Geller with Madison Gallery, Dennis & Leen, Formations, Paul Montgomery Murals, Studio E Inc, Urban Electric, Tai Ping, Samad, Cest la Vie Antiques, Joan Bonetti, Caeser Stone, and Cote Jardin Antiques.
