Curating Craftsmanship: Feathers

I am thrilled to bring you behind the scenes on a special piece of art we commissioned for a client's foyer.  The entryway really sets the tone for the home. You want it to be inviting and comforting, but also intriguing; a hint of what is to come. Here, we hand painted the floors and ceiling, and layered in a custom lantern, and mid-century, brass chairs that we reupholstered.  And the piece de resistance:  Feathers.  With the strong, hard metal of the chairs and lantern, I wanted to add something soft to the space. Something romantic yet elegant.  So I conceived a piece of art, pen and ink feathers, with a hint of gold leafing to tie it to its furniture brethren, and had the fantastic Joan Bonettti execute the pieces.

There is something about collaborating with other creative artisans that brings me so much pleasure. Artistic minds can come togather to produce something so much more than just the sum of its parts.   I hope you enjoy this story about the process of producing and installing these pieces.
